Inspired by the legendary skin-changer from The Hobbit, Beorn captures the narrative of a figure who is both wild and nurturing. Using folk-art symmetry and fine decorative linework, the design mirrors the hand-hewn craftsmanship of Beorn's great wooden hall, while his sentient animal companions also come to life. At its heart, the pattern celebrates the harmony of Beorn's sanctuary, the thriving orchards, blossoming fruit trees, and a deep, protective bond with the natural world.
Beorn Untamed is woven with a warm Irish cream weft that brings the intricate folk-art linework and decorative motifs into crisp detail against a rich forest canopy ground. The sweeping fade of greens evokes the ancient shadow of Mirkwood, through to bright lime, capturing the sun-dappled vitality of Beorn's thriving orchards.
Hemp is a wonderfully sustainable yarn with low environmental impact, which is why we love using it in our slings. This fabric is strong, durable and supportive, making it perfect for carrying bigger children and toddlers. Mouldable and thin in hand, it will need just a little wear to become soft enough for newborns. The breathable nature of this fabric makes it perfect for warmer weather, as hemp’s naturally moisture-wicking properties will help to keep you both cool in the summer months.

The Beorn design is inspired by the legendary skin-changer who dwells in the shadow of the Misty Mountains. A towering, solitary figure of immense strength, he is the master of his own wild domain, alternating between the form of a great black bear and a formidable man. Though 'grim' to his enemies, he is a healer and a protector, presiding over a sanctuary where man and beast live in a unique, sentient harmony.
This pattern captures the sanctuary of the Carrock through a lens of traditional Northern folk art. The repeating layout and natural elements reflect the sturdy, hand-hewn craftsmanship of Beorn’s timbered hall, bringing a sense of ancient order and domestic warmth to the wildness of Middle-earth.
The design features many members of Beorn’s household. Beorn's Bear form is depicted in both a powerful profile and a guardian-like frontal pose, symbolising his primal power and his role as the fierce protector of the forest. You can find ponies and dogs, his beloved 'animal folk', the clever, high-legged ponies and watchful dogs are companions of high intelligence. You will also find bees and traditional skep hives representing the lifeblood of Beorn's meadows and the famous honey of his table. Nestled among stylised trees and flowers is Beorn's timbered cabin.
Through this structured, soulful aesthetic, the design honours a world where the wild is not something to be conquered, but a home to be fiercely defended and tenderly kept.
